I feel like I should introduce myself a little better than that little blurb on the side. My name is Tiffany. I am 34, and I am a single mom. I have one little boy who will be 2 in December. He is the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me. I live in a small town in Indiana and work at a local Indianapolis hospital as a Patient Care tech. In my free time, wait, what is free time? Anyway, when I get the chance, usually before bed, I like to read. I also enjoy sewing, painting, coloring, crocheting, and being outside. I also spend a lot of time at my moms house, because why not right?
A little bit about my son. He was born 3 weeks early. I was induced because he wasn’t moving around. His heart rate was great the entire time so my doc wasn’t that worried. When he was finally born, 48 hours after the start of induction, he wasn’t breathing. To this day, we have no idea why it happened. It took the nurses 10 minutes to get him breathing. He was rushed to the nursery where I found out shortly after that he had a seizure. At that point the Neonatologist told me that he needed to be transferred to a hospital with a NICU. He was just a couple of hours old when he was flown to another hospital. I was absolutely terrified. I was told that he had something called Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. He had to be sedated and cooled for 72 hours to reduce or reverse the effects that the lack of oxygen could have had on his brain. I wasn’t able to hold him until he was 4 days old. Despite his rough start, he was a model NICU baby. Passed all his tests, no signs of anymore seizures, was never on supplemental oxygen, and ate like a champ. He came home when he was 9 days old. 3 days before Christmas! Since then he has passed all of his developmental check-ups with flying colors. He is now a completely normal child. Well, maybe not normal, he is my kid after all.
So that is our story. Obviously there is a lot more to our lives than just that little paragraph, and I plan on sharing some of my wins and failures as a first time single mom through this blog. Not gonna lie, I’m just winging it so stick with me.
